Handshake 101

It All Begins With a Handshake

The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University have switched to Handshake, the leading career platform used at over 400 colleges and more than 200,000 employers. Handshake is an online database where students and alums can browse for opportunities (jobs, internships, full and part-time service, fellowships and experiential learning), apply online, research companies and graduate schools, and schedule on-campus interviews.

Students Employers Alums Faculty/Staff

Students: Getting Started

  1. Login to Handshake Your account is pre-loaded, go to https://csbsju.joinhandshake.com/login and use your CSB/SJU login information.
  2. Customize your profile and put your best self forward to employers and partners by adding a resume, a profile picture, your career interests, work experience, etc.
    • Upload a document. Make your resume public for employers and partners to view
    • Check to be sure all pre-loaded information is correct. If you find an error in any of your profile data, contact XPD to correct it.
    • Decide whether to make your profile public or private. A public profile, and most information in the profile, can be seen by any employer on Handshake, XPD, and by faculty who have opted-in to the system. If you make your profile private, it can only be seen by you and XPD. The more information you add to your profile, the easier it will be for employers to find you and to make decisions about whether or not you might be a good fit for their positions.
  3. Take it for a spin. Use the landing page, top search bar and filters to look for companies and opportunities you’re interested in learning more about or applying to.
    • You can always save your searches in Handshake so finding relevant employers and jobs will be easy.
    • Download the Handshake Mobile (iOS) app to discover jobs on the go and to stay on track with reminders for application deadlines and direct messages from employers.
    • Follow positions and employers you’re interested in. When you follow an employer or a job, you can begin filtering based on companies you follow.
  4. Benefit from Handshake. Handshake uses recommendation technology to cater to each individual user. Find and apply for positions, sign-up for on-campus interviews, and more! Visit XPD and talk to a Career Assistant to find out more about what Handshake can do for you!

Employers: Getting Started

  1. Login to Handshake
    1. Go to https://csbsju.joinhandshake.com/login
    2. Select log in
    3. Select create new account
    4. Select Employer
  2. Select your company/organization OR create a profile for your company/organization.
  3. Select “College of Saint Benedict/Saint John’s University” to post jobs/opportunities for Bennies and Johnnies to view. Add any additional schools you would like to recruit from.

Alums: Getting Started

  1. Login to Handshake
    1. Go to https://csbsju.joinhandshake.com/login
    2. Select log in
    3. Select create new account
    4. Select Student/Alumni
    5. In the “School” box, type “College of Saint. Benedict/Saint. John’s University” (Note: You will need to use “Saint” vs “St”)
    6. After submitting your profile, CSB/SJU will review it and verify your account. Once it is approved, you will receive an email letting you know your account is approved and ready for use.
