'The Francis Effect' comes to SJU

The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University presents a Salt and Light production of "The Francis Effect" at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 11 at the Pellegrene, SJU.

"The Francis Effect" is a documentary detailing the first year of Pope Francis' office. It takes an in-depth look at how Pope Francis' leadership is changing the Catholic Church as well as how his pastoral approach has touched so many people worldwide.

Sebastian Gomes, SJU theology graduate '07 and Saint John's School of Theology and Seminary master's degree graduate '11 will moderate the discussion about the documentary. He serves as a producer and correspondent for Salt and Light Media Foundation.  

The film is divided into six chapters representing different themes of Pope Francis' first year.

The Salt and Light Media Foundation spent a lot of time preparing for this documentary and many people were interviewed in the process. Some of these interviewees include: Scott Pelley, host of CBS News, Diane Sawyer, host of ABC News as well as Monsignor John Kozar, President of the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. 

The Salt and Light Media Foundation has released many other documentaries, including their recent award winning film, "Messenger of the Truth." This foundation's mission is to tell stories of hope that bring people closer to Christ and the Catholic faith. It shares this through a television network, documentaries, a weekly radio show, magazines and various social media channels.

Gomes will introduce "The Francis Effect" followed by a Q-and-A session after for those interested.

Gomes will also go into classes on Thursday, March 12 and Friday, March 13 for presentations and an informal Q-and-A. For more information on this documentary, visit the Salt and Light website.
