Sunday Keynote in Collaboration with NCCLA Conference

CSC Day and NCCLA Conference Keynote on April 18 at 4pm!

We are thrilled to announce a special CSC Day Kick Off Keynote offered by the North Central Council of Latin Americanists Conference. Join us on Sunday, April 18 at 4pm for "Afro-descendants, Crises , and Resistance in Latin America" with Dr. Gladys Mitchell-Walthour.

Dr. Mitchell-Walthour will discuss the continuous crises Afro-descendants face as they tend to have higher rates of poverty and suffer from police violence than whites in Latin America. She will also discuss the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on Afro-Latin Americans. Finally, she will discuss innovative ways Afro-Latin Americans have mobilized during the pandemic and how they have increased national and transnational dialogue with activists and scholars throughout the Americas. While crises bring about challenges and hardships, Afro-descendants have always and continue to find ways to resist and fight for Black freedom and liberation.

This event is free to the CSB/SJU Campus Community - all are encouraged to attend! Register here
