Many questions can arise when your son or daughter is considering attending a two-week summer institute on a college campus focused on developing Christian leadership though theological reflection, service, and prayer. First and foremost, the staff at YTM takes the safety of your children as our highest priority. We have a well-trained staff of CSB/SJU theology and education majors who are likely to inspire your son or daughter to think deeply about their identity: “their deep gladness for the world’s deep need.” We help young people discover a beloved community. Our research data shows that over 90% of the youth who have attended YTM since 2000 have rated this experience as “excellent” overall.

Where do students stay?
You will stay in dormitory rooms on the Saint John’s University campus, two youth per room. Each room has two closets, two chairs and two beds. Bedding and towels will be provided.
What will students eat?
Students will eat all meals at Saint John’s refectory.
What will students study?
Each year different theology courses are offered. Students have options for the class that they want to take. Classes are taught by theology professors from the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University. Each student will receive a Bible and one or two books related to their course. Each year YTM focuses on the intersection of Christian discipleship and Catholic Social Teaching. YTM’s focus this year will be: “Christian disciples promote respect and dignity for all humans.”
What will students need to bring?
Clothes for two weeks (free laundry in the dorms is available), plus a nice set of clothes for Mass and special banquets, a fan, toiletries, and any necessary medicine. A complete packing list will be sent to each registrant.
What opportunities are available outside the classroom?
Students will go off campus each afternoon for service learning. Service sites include Boys and Girls clubs, nursing homes, or community gardens. Students have a choice of service sites that work at for the two weeks. Early evenings are free time. Students play outdoor and indoor games as well as have time to swim or canoe on beautiful Lake Sagatagan.
What is the cost?
Registration fee: $800. Each youth participant is awarded a scholarship of $1,100 from benefactors of YTM (The Lilly Endowment and YTM Vocation Partners). This reduces the actual per pupil cost of $1,900 to a registration fee of $800. Many youth have some or all of this fee paid by their parish (sponsoring the leadership development of your child).
