Amy Wen

What did you get your undergraduate degree in?

I got my BS in Human Development and minored in Education at the University of California Davis.

What is your current field of study?

I am in the ThM program at Saint John's, which is a 1 year writing based degree program.

What are your particular interests within your field?

Liturgical Theology; I am studying the concept of liturgy as "primary theology" and the ecclesial implications for that.

Why did you choose to come to the SOT?

I chose to come to the SOT after hearing about the school from a professor I worked with at my previous job. I decided to take one online class to see if the SOT would be a good fit for me and I loved it so much that I applied for a program before I could even finish the course!

What is your favorite spot on campus?

The Abbey Church. It's the beating prayer-heart of campus! My next favorite spot would be the Great Hall because the beauty of the mural catches my breath every single time I walk in.

What is your favorite Benedictine Value that you see lived out at the SOT?

Stability. In a world of instability, there is a peace and intergenerational quality to the SOT that I think is a unique, rare contribution to the formation of our students.

What advice would you give students considering enrolling at the SOT?

Take your time! Try an online class, meet some alumni, visit the campus. We will welcome you with open arms!

What are your goals after graduation?

I would love to consider doctoral work in the area of liturgical theology, but before that I'd like to give time to discernment of a (possible) monastic vocation! My goal is to find subsistence work in the area so that I can give this junction of my vocation discernment the time and space it needs.
