Sabbatical
Saint John’s provides a reflective and stimulating environment for spiritual and theological renewal. Here, sabbatical students can design a tailored program to meet their own personal and ministerial needs. As graduate students, those on sabbatical have access to all student facilities and resources on campus at Saint John’s and at the College of Saint Benedict, a few miles away in St. Joseph, MN.
Opportunities abound: courses, Conversatio Lifelong Learning seminars, conferences, lectures, individual study, retreats, spiritual direction, and participation in daily liturgy. Enjoy the beauty of Collegeville in all its seasons, see and hear a full array of concerts, plays, and exhibits in our Fine Arts Series, exercise in our state-of-the-art campus fitness centers, and take advantage of the programs and opportunities at the Collegeville Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research, the Episcopal House of Prayer, the Hill Museum and Manuscript Library, the Liturgical Press, and the Saint John’s Pottery Studio.
The monks of Saint John’s Abbey in Collegeville and the sisters of Saint Benedict’s Monastery in St. Joseph have provided places for spiritual renewal and ministerial refreshment for countless ministers and pilgrims through the years. Come here to live, pray, rest, and share your gifts with our graduate school community.
Sabbatical students are expected to register for two to three courses for credit or audit during each semester on campus. Credit coursework can be applied to a certificate program, if desired. Auditors are expected to attend classes and prepare assignments; they are not required to write major papers or take exams. Special tuition rates are available to sabbatical students.
