Consultation: From Theory To Practice

The Pastoral Mission of Technology

November 19, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Emmaus Hall, No Charge

Do we need a new webpage? How can Twitter help us with connecting busy people? Would a blog be a good way to evangelize adults? What sort of media have the greatest impact on children and youth in terms of religious ideas? The questions about using technology in ministry can sometimes obscure the deeper questions of why we use such a resource and why it is best to use it for specific faith development and community building reasons. For this consultation, we are looking for up to twelve parish ministers who would like to think about technology as a pastoral tool and help guide the School of Theology in developing continuing education opportunities around the topic. This conversation will be facilitated by Vic Klimoski and Barabara Sutton. Resource people for the discussion will be Mary Hess, a professor at Luther Seminary and a national expert on the use of information technology and ministry, and Tim Welch, Director of Media Services for the Diocese of Saint Cloud and author of Technology Tools for Your Ministry: No Mousing Around.
