SJU Campus Recreation

Unleash Your Competitive Spirit at Saint Ben’s and Saint John’s

In addition to varsity sports, SJU offers club sports ranging from lacrosse to rugby to crew. These teams provide the camaraderie and the competition you would find in a varsity sport. In many cases the teams travel and compete against other colleges and universities across the country.

We also offer many ways to stay active. Hundreds of students participate in our very popular intramural programs, competing against each other for bragging rights, an intramural champions T-shirt, and a spot on the intramurals “Wall of Champions.”

Warner Palestra

The Warner Palaestra is the primary recreation center for Saint John’s University students and faculty, and also members of the Saint John’s Abbey. The Palestra is home to the indoor recreations: McGlynn’s Fitness Center, Donald McNeely Spectrum, Warner Palestra Pool, and Sexton Arena.

SJU Pool

The pool was built as part of the original Warner Palaestra Athletic Complex in 1973. The Warner Palaestra Pool includes a regulation sized, eight-lane, 25-yard pool, one-meter and three-meter spring boards and a five-meter platform. Johnnie swimmers and divers have been a vital part to the success of Saint John’s Athletics and continue to be.

The Warner Palaestra Pool is also open to club sport and general student use during the course of the academic year. Saint John’s Water Polo has seen significant success in the Warner Palaestra Pool in recent years.

CSB/SJU and outside groups interested in renting/reserving the pool should contact Ben Gill (320) 363-3352 [email protected]
