5. Horsetail

• Horsetail is an interesting plant found at the transition zone between the wetlands and prairie. 
• The stems of this plant contain silica and are rigid enough to file your nails. 
• Settlers called this plant "scouring rush" and utilized it to clean their pots and pans.
