Emerging Scholars Program

The Emerging Scholars (ES) Program is a one-of-its-kind program designed to provide first-years students that have been traditionally underrepresented in higher education or their field of study to three high-impact practices over the course of their first year at CSB and SJU: undergraduate research, learning in community, and meaningful on-campus student employment.

Students selected to become Emerging Scholars are paired with a faculty mentor who is committed to working with underrepresented students and to our program’s mission of making undergraduate research accessible to students from all backgrounds and abilities. Students selected to be an Emerging Scholar are offered a full-time, paid, on-campus research position (10-12 hours per week) for the entire academic year under the mentorship of a faculty mentor. Emerging Scholars assist their faculty mentor with hands-on research or creative work, participate in personal and professional development and networking opportunities, and are part of a unique learning community of students and faculty that fosters their sense of belonging on campus. Faculty mentors participating in the program also receive ongoing professional development and a stipend for the meaningful time they invest with their mentee.
