Entry #1
Photo Name: Lucky Bay
Location: Esperance, Western Australia

Description: This photo was taken during three students first independent road trip abroad. It was an experience that brought us freedom, confidence, and some amazing views.

Entry #2
Photo Name: Winter Castle
Location: Segovia, Spain

Description: This photograph was taken after a heavy winter storm, which buried the town of Segovia in more snow than had been seen in over twenty years. For many Spaniards, the cold weather and cloudy skies can put them in a foul mood. Just like the weather, our own experiences abroad could be unexpected and disheartening at times. However, by supporting each other and keeping a positive attitude, we were often able to make the best out of an inconvenient situation. This photograph is a tribute to those silver linings, and the beauty that can be found in the bleakest of winters.

Entry #3
Photo Name: Culture of Colors
Location: Xela, Guatemala

Description: It didn't take long for all to take notice in how important bright and vibrant colors in guatemala are, especially in their cemeteries. There is such a different perception of death in Guatemala where it is much more celebrated. Every grave is so brightly colored and celebrated and families are all kept together.

Entry #4
Photo Name: Threads of Community
Location: Momostenango

Description: We had the opportunity to visit the highlands of Guatemala and see one of the few traditional, floor loom weavers. Thelma and Luis taught us all about how every aspect of the process of making rugs and blankets is done completely naturally and by hand from the shearing of the sheep to the dying of the wool. It really portrayed how the people of Guatemala have kept the traditions of their ancestors alive.

Entry #5
Photo Name: Walking the Coast of the Emerald Isle
Location: Dingle Peninsula, Ireland

Description: The Cork program was a much more independent program for us because we didn't have a program coordinator there with us, and we didn't have many excursions planned by the school. Because of this, most of us would plan our own trips for the weekend - both on our own and with our friends. I went to this particular location three times because I went the first time on my own, and it was such an amazing experience that I wanted to share it with others. When I was younger, I had a fascination with Peter Pan and being able to fly. On my trips around the Dingle Peninsula, I got the opportunity to fly when I climbed to the top of a hill, and the wind from being on the coast was so strong that when I jumped, I landed four feet away from my starting position. Being able to live out my childhood dream of not only flying, but getting to travel around Ireland, was what really made my study abroad experience special.

Entry #6
Photo Name: Art in an Unexpected Place
Location: London, England

Description:  London is very well known for their arts in regards to theater and museums. During the end of my time I went to the Wallace Collection that was open to the public. An extensive collection from the 15th to 19th centuries, this collection was left to the nation to be admired. The free collection represents the desire London has to keep arts in the culture.

Entry #7
Photo Name: Glimpse into Ocean
Location: Mountain-side Cave -- South Africa

Description: This picture signifies how the study abroad experience can be very picturesque, but it may be hidden to the naked eye. We found this breathtaking cave under a mountain-side road. You would've never been able to find this place at a first look over the mountainside into the ocean. This captivates that the study abroad experience is about exploring deeper than what's on the surface.

Entry #8
Photo Name: Cangrejo
Location: Playa Mann, San Cristobal, Galapagos

Description: Everyone on our trip selected these Sally Lightfoot crabs for our joint research project, and we all spent the majority of our short term program paying close attention to and analyzing their behavior. We woke up before dawn to watch these guys crawl across lava rocks at low tide, and spent enough time with them to say they are definitely the symbol of our adventure.

Entry #9
Photo Name: Michael Kelly
Location: Chongqing, China

Description: The beauty of the world is beyond description. As I traveled throughout China, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, and France a spark of new perspective ignited a great understanding within me: adventure and education don't have borders. Opportunity is worldwide; all one must do is look through a cultural-accepting lens and take that leap of faith out of his or her comfort zone and into a zone of growth. This photo reflects my study abroad experience because it represents a passion for science, friendships that will last a lifetime, and a constructive use of differing cultural perspective to conquer a similar goal--optimum worldwide health.

Entry #10
Photo Name: Dreaming
Location: Schwangau, Germany

Description: Fixed atop a hill in Schwangau, Germany, I turned to look at the amazing landscape before me. Mystified by the beauty of the lake that gradually wound through the endless mountains reaching through the clouds, I stood silently pondering how lucky I was to experience something like this. Looking out at this view and knowing that I was headed to Neuschwanstein Castle, also known as Cinderella's Castle, it only seemed fitting to take in the wise words of Walt Disney who once said "all our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." Traveling to Germany had always been a dream of mine, and I was now not only in Germany, but was engulfing myself in the environment, culture, history, language, lifestyle, and work atmosphere of the country as well. Throughout my time in Germany, I had the privilege of working at a bi-lingual primary school, teaching various grades about my own culture and language, in addition to studying the history, politics, and language of Germany. Standing where I was, and seeing the view in front of me, all reminded me of how much this world has to offer and how you must pursue every chance you get to explore it because you never know what you might learn. I could have never imagined learning the things I did. Jumping on opportunities like studying in a country you are completely foreign to takes courage, but it is an opportunity worth more than you can imagine.
