52 Bennies and Johnnies earn internships through Summer Leadership Fellows Program for 2023

The 2023 class for the Summer Leadership Fellows Program at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University will make it possible for 52 students to engage in 10-week internships with nonprofit or government institutions.

The program, a collaboration between the Experience Hub at CSB and SJU and the Eugene J. McCarthy Center for Public Policy and Civic Engagement, includes John Brandl Scholars, the Fleischhacker Center for Ethical Leadership in Action Fellows, the Marie and Robert Jackson Fellows and Bonner Fellows.

Participants, who are selected through an application and interview process, come from a wide range of majors, interests and experiences. Each student selected receives a stipend of $6,000 paid throughout the summer. They are eligible for an additional $1,000 professional development stipend, and also can elect to register for and receive internship credits, though it is not required.

This year’s cohort includes 10 Brandl Scholars, 21 Fleischhacker Fellows, 19 Jackson Fellows and two Bonner Fellows.

The Brandl Scholars include: Sophia Anderson, Chiamaka Chijioke, Betty Garcia Herrera, Elizabeth Hamak, Wesley Kirchner, Evan Mattson, Jamie Ozuna, Landon Peterson, Fredi Ponce Parra and Jose Reynoso.

The Fleischhacker Fellows include: Sydney Aandal, Jennifer Agustin Ambrocio, Stephanie Birk, Emily Cavanaugh, Martha Dougherty, Rachel Eiden, Rachel Erben, Janett Jimenez, Sophia Kelly, Elianna Knutson, Madeline Lenius, Alexzandrea Lewis-Smith, Amanda Martinez-Port, Clair Moonen, Kenedi Mullings, Gabriela Perez Sanchez, Taylor Samuelson, Jalayna Smith-Moore, Destiny Sweeting, Madeleine Vargas and Clara Winter.

The Jackson Fellows include: Dana Alcala, Courtney Connelly, Canaan Cooper, Cao Doan, Noah Friendshuh, Lauren Funke, Ryan Imm, Aidan McDonell, Cullen McMahon, Mahina Melim, Nicholas Mertens, Maeve Miley, Marissa Pax, Eliana Schmaltz, Sarah Skrove, Zachary Staver, Morgan Van Beck, Christianna Wallace and Anna Webb.

The Bonner Fellows include: Tom Hobday and Ella Martin.

Applications for the 2024 Summer Leadership Fellows Program will open in fall 2023.
