SJU Grad at Center of NBA Action Inside the Bubble

Joey Heimel ’19 learned a lot about what goes into supporting the day-to-day operations of an athletic program during the three seasons he spent as a student-manager in the basketball program at Saint John’s University.

Now the Prior Lake (Minnesota) High School graduate is getting the chance to put those skills to use in a historic and very much unchartered setting.

Heimel is inside the NBA bubble in Orlando, Florida, serving as one of 55 team attendants hired to work in the controlled setting the league has set up in an effort to complete the 2019-20 season – which had been put on hold back in March with the onset of COVID-19.
