For the third year in a row, the College of Saint Benedict was one of the top higher education institutions to receive donations from Give to the Max Day, an event designed to increase giving to Minnesota-based nonprofits.

Unofficially, 533 donors gave $76,880 to CSB. This garnered CSB the No. 3 ranking in the Minnesota colleges and universities category. For the 24-hour period starting at midnight Nov. 16, donors were encouraged to go to the website giveMN.org and make a donation.

"The College of Saint Benedict placing third demonstrates the generosity of our alumnae, students, parents and friends," said Kim Motes, vice president of Institutional Advancement at CSB. "I am incredibly proud that we can provide important scholarship dollars to smart, talented young women through these and other philanthropic efforts."

Gifts for CSB ranged from $10 to $5,000. In addition, CSB will receive a $5,000 bonus cash prize for finishing third. CSB staff credits the strong connections and success from the previous Give to the Max events with the strong showing.

Interaction on the website was highly encouraged and there were hundreds of comments including one from CSB '81 alumna Colleen Lilly "CSB is still.... 'Today's Place for Tomorrow's Women.'  I wish I could enroll and do it all over again. Best four years of my life!"

This is the third year the Give to the Max Day has been held in Minnesota. To date, CSB has received $267,072 from this event.

This year's main leaderboard winners (based on dollars raised) were Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners which received $319,938, Cretin-Derham Hall, $268,909 and Second Harvest Heartland, $256,225. The top two finishers in the colleges and universities category were St. Olaf College with $230,713 and Concordia College in Moorhead with $97,923.

The 2011 Give to the Max Day event raised $13,558,803 from 47,535 donors and benefited 3,978 nonprofit organizations. It is sponsored by GiveMN, a collaborative venture that aims to transform philanthropy in Minnesota by growing overall giving and moving more of it online.
