Johnnies receive berth in NCAA Division III Football Championship

The Saint John’s University football team received two big wins over the weekend.

On Sunday, Nov. 12, SJU received its 28th postseason berth. The Johnnies face North Central College at noon Saturday, Nov. 18, at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium in Naperville, Illinois, in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Football Championship.

That followed a tense 10-3 win over Concordia-Moorhead Saturday, Nov. 11, at Clemens Stadium.

Both SJU and North Central enter the playoff game with 9-1 overall records. North Central shared the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin title with Illinois Wesleyan, but earned the league’s automatic berth with a regular season win over IWU.

The Johnnies finished second in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and received one of five at-large berths in the 32-team field.
