Author and cartoonist Roz Chast is the featured guest at Book Lovers Night at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13 in room 204, Gorecki Center, CSB.

Chast will discuss her upcoming memoir, "Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant?" In this memoir, to be released in May, Chast discusses the topic of aging parents. Spanning the last several years of her parents' lives, Chast's memoir seeks to be both comfort and comic relief for anyone experiencing the life-altering loss of elderly parents.

Chast grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y., and in 1977 she received her bachelor of fine arts in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. After graduation, Chast switched to cartooning.

She also will be performing "An Evening with Roz Chast" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14 at the Gorecki Family Theatre, an event that is co-sponsored by CSB/SJU Fine Arts Programming and CSB Literary Arts Institute.

Chast's work has been featured in The New Yorker, Scientific American, the Harvard Business Review, Redbook and Mother Jones. Her most recent book is "Theories of Everything: Selected, Collected and Health Inspected Cartoons of Roz Chast, 1978-2006," and is a collection of her favorite cartoons from throughout her career. Other accomplishments include illustrating the children's book, "The Alphabet from A to Y, with Bonus Letter, Z," by Steve Martin.

Chast has also been the recipient of numerous honors, including an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Dartmouth College in 2011 and the New York City Literacy Award for Humor in 2012. In 2013, she received the Reuben Award for Best Gag Cartoon and was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Refreshments will be provided, and beer and wine will be available for sale to those who are of age. An informal book chat and a free book swap begins at 6:30 p.m., and a local community reader will give book recommendations at 6:45 p.m. Chast will be available for book signings after her reading. The event is free and open to the public.

The CSB/SJU Bookstore will offer recommended books for sale at 20 percent off during the event.  For more information, contact [email protected] or call 320-363-2119.
