Biography

“Brimming with effortless lyricism” (Musical America), Anna Ward is a passionate interpreter of a wide variety of vocal repertoire. Ward has performed with ArtsEmerson, the Mark Morris Dance Company, Lorelei Ensemble, Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Yale Choral Artists, Juventas New Music Ensemble, Seraphim Singers, and the Boston Chamber Symphony. Ward has performed at Carnegie Hall with the Yale Choral Artists (2012) and the Boston Symphony Orchestra (2010). In 2018, she was a cast member in the Ireland tour of Gare St. Lazare’s Samuel Beckett pastiche, Here All Night.

Favorite operatic roles include Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), Lisette (La Rondine), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), and Mabel (Pirates of Penzance). Ward has also been fortunate to perform many beloved concert works, such as Vivaldi’s Gloria, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, Haydn’s Nelsonmesse, Mozart’s Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, and the contemporary standards of Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire, Cathy Berberian’s Stripsody, Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, Gorecki’s Good Night, and John Harbison’s Mirabai Songs.

Ward is the soprano soloist on MIT Women’s Chorale’s recording of the second mass of Charles-René, available on iTunes. She also recorded a series of tracks for the video game Code Vein, released by BANDAI NAMCO in 2019. Ward danced and sang the title role in the première of Mark Warhol’s JEANNE in collaboration with Danielle Davidson, Ilya Vidrin, and Shura Baryshnikov. During her term as cantor for the Archdiocese of Boston, she collaborated with composer Richard J. Clark in premieres of his sacred music, most notably Woman of No Distinction and the upcoming Te Deum, for which she will travel to Paris in 2022.

Ward received her masters from the Boston Conservatory and is an adjunct faculty member at Middlesex Community College and the College of St. Benedict and St. Johns University. She has been on the performance faculty at Wellesley College, Roxbury Community College, and Fall River Community College. She now lives outside of St. Paul with her wonderful family.
