Jody Martinson ’97

Jody Martinson graduated from CSB in 1997 with a degree in Music Education and Vocal Performance. Later she went on to earn a Master's degree in Choral Conducting from SCSU in 2004.

Jody has been the Artistic Director and Conductor for Minnesota Center Chorale since 2009.  She has also worked as Music Director and Liturgist for Church of the Holy Spirit since 2000, where she directs an Adult Choir, Handbell Choir, and Children’s Choir.  Additionally, she is a founding member of the vocal quintet, Five Good Reasons.  Throughout her career, she has taught private voice lessons and has sung as a soloist for various organizations.

Needless to say, Jody has a lot on her plate.  When asked for her advice on time management, she said:

“My advice is to find talented volunteers in your organizations to assist with certain roles and tasks. Also, write everything down and create lists! Prioritize and remember to take time to yourself when you can find it to keep your mind and spirit healthy.”

Jody finds her work satisfying, giving her a good reason to stay busy.

“The most satisfying part of my work is the joy of creating music together in rehearsals. When singers develop an understanding of the text and find a connection relevant to their own lives, the music comes alive and is authentically portrayed to the audience.”
