We’re glad that you are here! You’ve landed the right place to connect with other first-gen students! Over 1/4 of our students identify as first-generation college students.

You are the first among your family members to attend college. Being a first-generation student is a proud accomplishment and a growth for your family. The first-gen support service is committed to supporting you, and the College of St Benedict and Saint John’s University are honored that you chose us for your college career.

We would like to let you know that you are not alone in this college journey. Our first-gen support services and First-Gen Organization provide a variety of support and programs for our amazing first-gen students.

*CSB and SJU define a first-generation student as any student whose parents or guardians have not completed a four-year degree in the US.

First-Generation Organization

The First-Generation Organization strives to support and advocate for first-generation students by providing proactive support, advice, guidance, and resources. This Organization offers opportunities for workshops, mentorship, and bonding. The Organization meetings and events aim to offer students a space for learning, growth, and community building. The First-Generation Organization exists and programs in order to ensure first-generation students understand, persevere, and thrive throughout their college experience.

Intercultural LEAD

The Intercultural Leadership, Education and Development Fellowship Program (Intercultural LEAD) engages and supports historically underrepresented, high-achieving first-generation college students who have demonstrated leadership potential and a commitment to personal and professional identity development.
