Information Literacy 2 Learning Outcome (met in Thematic Focus courses)

Students locate relevant information using well-designed search strategies, evaluate and use appropriate and multiple resources, and articulate why using information has many ethical and legal implications.

Librarian Involvement in Info Lit 2 Courses

Your Liaison Librarian:Your departmental liaison librarian is available to work with your Thematic Focus-designated course. Contact your librarian to discuss the most effective ways to involve them.

Assignment Review:We're happy to consult with you and develop activities or assignments that will help your students develop strong information literacy skills they can apply to coursework and their daily lives.

In-Class Instruction: Contact your librarian to sort out when it might be best for them to meet with your class and to share things like your syllabus, course description, learning objectives, and assignment details with us to help us plan. We can adapt the number or length of sessions, session activities, and session goals to meet your needs.

Library Information Literacy and Research Tutorials: Most students go through our six Info Lit 1 tutorials in INTG 100: Learning Foundations or INTG 205 Transfer Seminar:

1. Library Orientation
2. Developing a Topic
3. Understanding Source Types
4. Searching a Database
5. Evaluating Sources
6. Citing Sources

We recommend adding them to your Canvas course too, so students can refer to them as needed if they need a review of the basics. This should make it easier to focus on higher-level information literacy concepts and skills in your course without leaving any students behind. We can also develop new Canvas content specific to your class if you are interested in offering additional asynchronous, flipped classroom resources around information literacy.

Student Research Appointments

Students can schedule one-on-one or group research appointments (via Zoom or in person) with a librarian to get help finding, evaluating, and citing sources. Please send your students our way if they need help!
