Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?
I decided to study abroad because I wanted to experience a new culture, especially one that I was not very knowledgeable about. I wanted to experience a new language as well, and I was already taking German classes. That is how I ended up choosing Austria.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your program that made a lasting impression.
One of the cultural experiences is the environment that you will be surrounded by. I don’t necessarily mean nature, but the people and how they act towards each other and just how different their lives are. For example in Austria, it is very common to walk everywhere. The places were very concentrated, and everything was within walking distance, when in the U.S. you need to have a car to go anywhere.
Describe your overall study abroad experience.
My overall experience was amazing. I got to make new friends, meet new people, learn, and grow. I had a fun time while abroad.
Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?
It helps with personal and cultural growth and helps you learn about the other side of the world. It is good if you ever consider studying for a master’s or working in a foreign country.
What advice can you offer for CSB+SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?
Do it. It might seem scary, but in the end, you’ll enjoy it. You will have many memories you will cherish for a lifetime. You get to learn and experience it yourself.
