Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?
I chose to study abroad to experience life in another culture and expand my view of the world. I decided on the London spring program because it provided an internship opportunity and a vibrant city with endless possibilities. Although I could never get tired of London, the global hub made it easy to travel and experience other places.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your program that made a lasting impression.
The transportation in London was phenomenal. It ensured we could see so many places in and around the city without breaking the bank. It was so fun to learn the complex system of the tube and buses and utilize them once we figured it out. We don’t get to experience this kind of transportation, especially in rural MN, so seeing this made a lasting impression of British culture for me.
Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?
Studying abroad was the absolute best semester. I was able to experience London to the fullest while also traveling to other countries. Studying abroad also introduced me to many new people from CSB+SJU I never might have known and now call great friends. It pushed me personally to become more confident and independent while navigating living in a foreign country.
What advice can you offer for CSB+SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?
If studying abroad can fit into your 4-year plan, do it! It is such a rewarding, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Be sure to pick a program that is right for you and true to your interests.
