Major: Biology

Minor: Exercise and Health Science

Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

I chose to study abroad because of the countless number of people that have loved it. I also knew that it would be a great opportunity for growth and very rewarding to me. I decided to go to Cork because of the freedom and independence it gave me. You can choose what classes you take at the university, so you are in classes with anyone from around the world.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your program that made a lasting impression.

The cultural experience that made an impact on me was doing the Ring of Kerry trip. We really got to experience Ireland by hitting some coastal towns and seeing beautiful scenery. Our tour guide was amazing, and he brought us to a few authentic pubs that night where we got to meet locals and dance to Irish traditional music.

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

Studying abroad was one of the best things I’ve done for myself. I was forced to grow and become much more independent and figure things out for myself. I am much more willing to try new experiences and meet new people. It broke me out of my comfort zone and I will forever be grateful for that.

What advice can you offer for CSB+SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

Do it! It truly was one of the best experiences of my life. Don’t be afraid to try new things and meet new people. Although it might be scary at first, it grows to be second nature to be out of your comfort zone.
