Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?
I chose to study abroad because I thought it would be a unique learning experience that would open my eyes to much more than what Collegeville, MN has to offer. I decided because I knew that I wanted to be able improve my Spanish abroad and I had a friend who went on this program in the past that recommended it.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.
I had once gone to an outdoor church service that was followed up by a small get together. This was super interesting because it was a way for me to be able to meet people and learn new things about their religious process.
Describe your overall study abroad experience.
My overall study abroad experience was inspiring because of the people, the trips, my host family, and everything else that I was exposed to. It was eye opening to see the difference in lifestyle compared to the United States. I would recommend study abroad for everyone. It's something that I feel everyone should experience.
Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?
There were many different things that I benefited from while abroad. I was able to gain more independence skills by living with a host family who also spoke another language than I did. I was able to form a bond with people who just a few months earlier I didn't know existed. I also was able to diversifies my cultural experiences by traveling to many different countries and learning about the differences between each one.
What advice can you offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?
If you are considering going, I say do it! There are so many things that you can experience while abroad that you would never even think of in the US. Learning about something online or through someone else is completely different than being able to be there and witness it yourself.
