SMASH
November 7 through Nov 16, 2024: 7:30 p.m.
Gorecki Family Theater, Benedicta Arts Center, College of Saint Benedict
SMASH is a wonderfully high-style British comedy of manners adapted from a novel by George Bernard Shaw that evokes Shaw’s high-minded heroes and heroines but is shaped by a postmodern sensibility. Sidney Trefusis, a millionaire socialist infiltrates a women’s college to plant the seeds of socialism in the brains of the future consorts of cabinet ministers and kings. His revolution goes awry as Henrietta, Sidney’s ex-wife, arrives to lead the women towards a future of their own making.

Amahl and the Night Visitors
December 13th through Dec 15th, 2024
Stephen B. Humphrey Theater, Saint John’s University
Amahl and the Night Visitors tells the story of Amahl, a young disabled boy with a vivid imagination, whose life changes when three kings—on a journey to honor a wondrous child—seek shelter at his home. Amahl’s mother is skeptical and desperate over their poverty, but she is moved by the king’s generosity. When she attempts to take their gold to care for her son, the kings forgive her, recognizing her hardship. Inspired, Amahl selflessly offers his crutch as a
gift for the child, leading to a miraculous healing. The story beautifully illustrates themes of faith, compassion, and the transformative power of giving.
