“Alice in Academica”: Ink Drawings of Alice in a CSB & SJU Wonderland by Wendy Sterba
Dietrich Reinhart Learning Commons, SJU (lower level, east entrance)
Using the famous Tenniel drawings of Alice and her friends from Lewis Carroll’s children’s books, Wendy Sterba places them in the Academic wonderland of Saint John’s and Saint Ben’s. Her ink drawings suggest questions like: How does our identity make the world seem fantastic and marvelous? How does our imagination interact with our environs to shape us? How does the imaginary affect how we are we situated in the “here and now”? Art of course does not give us the answers, but it can open a conversation.
Wendy Sterba is a painter and artist who taught Media and German studies at CSB/SJU for 30 years. She works in ink, paint, mixed media, fiber and jewelry and will be available for dialogue 10:30 am – 12:00 pm in the Dady Monahan Study Area of the Learning Commons.
