IRS Data Retrieval

Parents and students are encouraged to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool in the Financial Information section of the FAFSA. This Tool allows you to retrieve and transfer your 2015 income and tax information directly from the IRS into your FAFSA. If your FAFSA is selected for verification, your application will not be reviewed until Data Retrieval is completed.

PLEASE NOTE: CSB/SJU were recently notified that the IRS Data Retrieval Tool on is currently unavailable.  The Department of Education and the IRS are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. However, at this time, the IRS anticipates the online data tool will be unavailable for several weeks.

This does not limit families' ability to apply for aid. Applicants have other options while the data tool is unavailable. Applicants filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can manually provide the requested financial information from copies of their tax returns. The online FAFSA remains operational, and applicants can continue filing the FAFSA as they normally would

You may also satisfy the verification requirement by requesting an IRS Tax Return Transcript and submitting it to the CSB/SJU financial aid office.

To obtain a tax return transcript, visit, click on "Order a Return or Account Transcript" link, or call 800-908-9946. Be sure to request the "IRS tax return transcript", not the "IRS tax account transcript."
