Your 4-Step Plan to Answering "Tell Me About Yourself" Perfectly

"If you, like me, have interviewed lately, you're probably familiar with my least favorite interview question of all time: 'Tell me about yourself.' How could I possibly provide an overview of my entire professional life, highlight the attributes that make me a good fit for the job, and come across as personable - all in three minutes or less?"

Alum: Kristina Burk, '14 NUTR Major
Master of Science: Athletic Training, College of St. Scholastica
Internship: ESPN Wide World of Sports

"I played soccer at CSB and during my first year, I had a pretty severe injury and needed to spend a lot of time in the Athletic Training room with the athletic training staff. During that time, I realized they had cool jobs that involved being around sports and helping athletes perform at their best. For the next three years, I worked in the Athletic Training room and realized this was the job I wanted to have for the rest of my life."

Intern: Jacob Shawback, '17 POLS and HISP Major
Immigration Intern: Kim Hunter Law P.L.L.C.

"The two biggest things I learned from my summer internship are: 1) I truly want to be a lawyer, and 2) how to answer the phone in a high intensity environment - it is more difficult than it sounds. My advice to students is to get involved in a club or organization on campus, attend events that interest you, and visit Career Services for help with resumes. Employers are looking for actively engaged and involved students."
