  • Revised and updated PowerPoint format.
  • Developed “team training” model between SELT members and primary WISE trainers
  • Continued partnership with the Vocation Project and Journey Program with sessions refreshments funded by Vocation Project.

WISE Leader Training:

  • Approximately 20 sessions were held for 1st year students working in student employment. Primary trainers: Diana Pelant and Kiola Toussaint.
  • Trained approximately 500 first-year student employees. 
  • Partnered with the Vocation Project and Journey Program and added a focus on vocational development and basic employment skillsVocation Project underwrote the refreshments costs for each session
  • Developed and implemented a Leader Training Survey for all trainers

Connectivity Team:

  • Created on-line discussion groups
  • Developed on-line registration and evaluation forms
  • Created a SELT Outlook account
  • Maintained SELT website

Collaboration Team:

  • Investigated the possibility of a master professional development calendar.

Relationship Team:

  • Developed the following SELT Relational Philosophy:
    “All guests who present themselves are to be welcomed as Christ, for he himself will say: I was a stranger and you welcomed me” (Matthew 25:35)

It is the intention of the relationship team to identify and implement activities that serve to help each member of the SELT community more fully understand and demonstrate the Benedictine value of hospitality. We specifically assert that SELT participants commit, by membership, to demonstrate a “deep respect for the individual person, a commitment to the development of each person, and the persuasive attention to the needs of the individual.

In an ongoing pledge to hospitality – to “listening with the ear of your heart” – SELT team members and guests are encouraged to contact a member of the relationship team for discussion about hospitable or inhospitable experiences related to SELT gatherings. Unless otherwise indicated by overt agreement, all such discussions will remain confidential.

  • Met with potential SELT members and encouraged them to join SELT

  • Spring Retreat at the House of Prayer – team building, evaluation, and planning

Visibility Team:

  • Purchased SELT t-shirts for all members and for door prizes

  • Sponsored 5th annual student appreciation carnival – CSB Haehn Campus Center

  • Trained approximately 375 first-year student employees. 
  • Partnered with the Vocation Project and added a focus on vocational development and basic employment skills
  • Vocation Project underwrote the refreshments costs for each session

Appreciation Team

  • Expanded from “Appreciation Week” team into “Appreciation Team”, after the July 2002 retreat
  • Coordinates all appreciation events: 
  • Responsible for appreciation – SELT member appreciation and campus wide appreciation of student employees and supervisors (e.g., Carnival, Birthday announcements for SELT members, etc.)
  • Carnival held on April 9th at SJU

  • In the face of reductions in the MN Work Study Program, the team focus was the identification of “essential” and “non-essential” student employment positions.

A grant for $7,490 was written to Kellogg with the following abstract:

In order to expand and assess student leadership opportunities beyond residence programs and athletics, it is our goal to increase student leadership opportunities through student employment. It is our aim to provide experiences in leadership through student employment by providing training opportunities for supervisors of student employees and student employees, to strengthen the importance of student employment as part of lifelong leadership development.
