CSB Dance Team Constitution
A. To Entertain audiences at football and basketball games
B. To promote physical fitness
C. To represent CSB/SJU at state-wide and national competitions and invitational exhibitions
D. To promote school spirit
E. To facilitate a bonding atmosphere for team members
II. MISSION STATEMENT
A. The Dance Team will help build a sense of community and cooperation within a group of women.
B. The Dance Team is an athletic club for women, combining art and sport, and promoting physical fitness
A. Must be a registered student attending the College of St. Benedict
B. Must have a physical within the past three years on file
C. Must maintain a grade point average of at least 2.0
A. The Dance Team will hold tryouts in the spring of each school year for the following dance season. Candidates will be evaluated by judges who are not affiliated with the dance team. Those who are unable to attend the day of tryouts have the option to send in a tape with all the required skills. Tryouts will be judged on, but not limited to, the following:
1.Jumps – toe-touches, leaps, splits, etc.
2.Dance Skills – sense of rhythm, sharpness, and precision, finishing of steps, etc.
3.Execution – knowledge of routine, mistakes, recoveries, etc.
4.Performance ability – projection of confidence, smiling, poise, energy, etc.
B. The Dance Team will meet at least 3 to 4 times a week as scheduled by the captains.
C. All members of the dance team will practice and perform together for the football season performances, after which the team will divide into Competition and Performance teams as designed by results of the tryouts described above.
D. Attendance at all practices and performances is mandatory unless the absence is excused (family emergency, illness, or professor-led study group). Captains reserve the right to prevent a member from performing in the event that a member is not prepared due to missed practices. A warning will be given to any member who is not prepared and if their behavior does not change, they are subject to removal from a performance.
E. A member can be on the football team if she wants to study abroad in the spring. No member is allowed to be on either the competition team or the performance team and also study abroad.
A. The Dance Team will be led by the team’s student staff which will include competitive captains and performance captains, with as many deemed necessary by the team. The treasury position will be held by one of the captains.
B. Captains must have been active members of the Dance Team for at least one year. Those members who study abroad in either the spring or the fall are still eligible to run for captain. A member can only run for captain for the team they were most recently on.
C. Officers will be elected by a vote at the end of each season by old member of the Dance Team. This election process will take place after tryouts.
D. Officers must attend all events hosted by the student activities, leadership, initiative team, JEC, and senate.
A. We want our advisor to be a part of the fitness center at CSB, because fitness is an important part of the dance team.
B. We want our advisor to be there for financial questions, any team problems the captains don’t feel comfortable dealing with and scheduling issues. The team will stays in close communication with our advisor.
VII. FUNDING POLICY
A. The Dance Team will engage in fundraising activities to finance a substantial amount of the expenses for competitions, invitationals, uniforms, and other club-related activities.
B. Personal uniforms items to remain permanently in the possession of members (shoes, warm-ups, sweatshirts, T-shirts, etc.) will not be funded by co-funded finances.
C. The Dance Team officers will seek funding from the co-funding board.
A. The constitution may be amended by a 2/3 vote of the Dance Team staff members.
B. The constitution may be amended if so required by the Department of Student Activities
IX. The Dance Team admits students without regard to their race, religion, color, sex, age, sexual orientation or national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and other activities, generally accorded or made available to members of the organization.
X. The Dance Team considers hazing to be a degrading and destructive activity which is inconsistent with the standards of this student organization. The Dance Team recognizes the dignity of every person and opposes all forms of hazing.
