Peace Studies explores the presence and nature of conflict in human interaction, the causes of war and intergroup violence, the methods of violence and nonviolence, and the conditions for sustainable peace. The purpose of the department is to examine these subjects through the methods offered through the humanities and social sciences.

On Monday, November 3rd, Korir Sing 'Oei, a Kenyan Human Rights lawyer with an LL.M. in Human Rights and Democratization from the University of Pretoria (South Africa) and founder and former executive director of the Centre for Minority Rights Development, in Nairobi, Kenya, spoke on Challenges Facing the Human Rights Movement in Kenya and Sub-Saharan Africa.
