Photographing the Great Outdoors

Saturday February 11th,  8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Classroom session: 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Field Exercise: 1:00 p.m. -3:00 p.m. in SJU Greenhouse 

Class size limited to 12 participants

Take the next step toward better photographs of the natural world. This is an intermediate level class for users of single-lens reflex (SLR) or advanced compact digital cameras.

Topics include:
  • Photographic terminology and camera modes;
  • Correcting exposure when your camera gets fooled;
  • Using the histogram;
  • Control of the focus point;
  • Creative use of light and depth of field;
  • Tips to improve composition;
  • Taking close-ups;
  • JPG vs. RAW;
  • A little about digital processing.

There will be hands-on opportunities during class to try new techniques so be sure to bring your camera and instruction manual and a tripod if you have one.  


 

About the Instructor

Ken Bachofer is an avid nature photographer and a Minnesota Master Naturalist Volunteer. Ken's presentations include examples of his photographs and interesting tidbits about nature.
