16. Lowland Hardwood

Mushroom Emerging from the floating boardwalk you will be immersed in a beautiful area of the woods. Early in the spring before the leaves shade the forest floor, this area erupts with a grand diversity of wildflowers and ferns.  With easy access to water, the root systems of the trees are poorly developed and frequently are blown over.  The decaying wood provides excellent habitat for mosses, salamanders, and mushrooms.
