Prairie Plants

The Saint John's Abbey Arboretum contains approximately 200 prairie plant species. Below are two lists of the prairie plants found in the Abbey Arboretum: one arranged by color and common name and one arranged by scientific name. The lists are extensive, but not meant to be comprehensive.

An online field guide of the most common prairie plants found in the Abbey Arboretum can be accessed via the links below. Only a portion of the plants included in the above lists are included in this field guide. Flowers are arranged by color and then alphabetically by common name. All photographs were taken by Erin Medvecz, Saint John's Outdoor University Student Naturalist (2013-2015), unless denoted with photo credit to Outdoor U. These pictures were taken by Outdoor U staff or members who sent in pictures for use by the Saint John's Outdoor University.
