Xang Yang

Xang is an Ambassador who studied abroad in China
Major: GBUS

Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

I've always dreamed of seeing China when I was a child. I felt that the China experience would really help with my major.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.

The cultural difference between Chinese and Americans. The hospitality that I received from my friends and others will always leave a lasting impression on me.

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

My overall experience was great. I did so many new things and learned so much more about the different cultures and myself personally. I would definitely go on another abroad trip again.

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

Some benefits are learning a new culture and language. But I think the best benefit is the friends I made abroad. This adventure has helped me with my overall development by showing me my weaknesses and how I can improve in a unfamiliar environment.

What advice can you offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

Get out of your comfort zone and try new things.
