Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

I choose to study abroad to become more independent and experience another culture. I have always loved traveling and I wanted to experience it for an extended time.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.

The cultural experience that stuck with me was the theater. I went to 4 musicals and 1 play and I would have loved to see more. Its a different kind of culture that we don't have in Minnesota and I will miss it. I even was able to meet one of the actors from the Harry Potter films who was acting in a play in London. Not something you see everyday.

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

My experience was so rewarding. I not only got to see all the touristy sites but I experienced the culture. I learned so much studying and working in a different country. I also was able to travel to Paris and Ireland. I took advantage of every excursion FIE had to offer from the theater to Stonehenge to Chelsea games.

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

Spending a semester abroad helped me to become so much more independent. I learned to have more confidence in myself getting around and traveling. Academically I learned about two different cultures, British and Islam from one of my classes. My internship helped me to take initiative and gain professional experience.

What advice can you offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

If you don't do it you will regret it. You will most likely not have this opportunity later in life so take advantage of it now! It has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my entire life. I would go again in a heartbeat if I had the chance. Find the program that works best for you and go see the world!
