Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

I have always wanted to get out of Minnesota and see the world. There is so much to see and do so I knew this was my opportunity to take advantage of it. I decided on Greco Roman because I have always wanted to go to Greece, especially for the warmer weather. Also Rome was an amazing place as well. The part that I got to study in two completely different places was double the experience for me. We started over in the middle and it was fabulous because they are so unique and so I feel like I got to see so much more living in two countries

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.

A lasting impression I had was when we all did a cooking class in Greece. It was such a great experience as each group had a task to make a special food from Greece. We not only cooked like Greeks, but spent hours preparing and eating because that's how they do it in Greece. This was important because it didn't feel like we were tourists for that night, we all learned how to make something together and the meal was amazing as a whole. Living and eating like Greeks make the experience feel very special to us. We appreciated food in a different way because we made it with out hands and it was about the people we were with as well.

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

It is truly impossible to fully describe. But, overall it was very rewarding and challenging at the same time. Spending it with Bennies and Johnnies was great because we all come back together and understand each other since traveling the world. This was a dream and I still sometimes think it didn't happen. There are so many types of people and cultures out there. I feel like my perspective is so different of the world and this positive change in my life wouldn't happen if it wasn't for study abroad. The professors were some of the smartest people I've met and the sites I've seen have been the most beautiful places in the entire world. Every day was a new adventure

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

There are endless benefits from spending a semester abroad. It is a great way to see America from the world's perspective. It opens your eyes to all the beauty in this world that you didn't know existed outside of pictures. I am more well-rounded because this has made me more independent and aware of other cultures. You getaily life because there is so much you can learn from others. I am more confident in my abilities because there are so many hard times that you experience and get through them. Most importantlty I made 29 other friends that I have a shared connection with forever. You get very close with your classmates as well because no one else will share the same memories

What advice can you offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

Do whatever you can to make studying abroad happen. You will never regret it and it will be the best experience of your life. Choose a program that not necessarily fits you, but one that will make you go out of your comfort zone. This way you will experience new things that challenge you no matter what. Your life will be turned upside down in the best way. The whole experience was a shock to me because the beauty in this world is quite a feeling that you will never get used to. You will miss it every day when you will get back but it will all be worth it.
