Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?
Every since I was in high school I knew I wanted to study abroad because it would be a once in a lifetime opportunity. I also wanted to experience another culture, learn a different way of life, and travel to new places. I chose Australia specifically because I love being outdoors, spending time on the beach, and there wasn't a language barrier. We also were able to live and go to school with Australian students, which made it easier to connect and create lifelong friendships!

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.
For a week during our study abroad semester we were able to spend time with an Aboriginal family in Kalgoorlie. This was an amazing and eye opening experience for all of us. They shared many stories with us, and taught us about their aboriginal culture and way of life. This experience is one I will never forget and it definitely changed my life!

Describe your overall study abroad experience.
My semester abroad was everything I had hoped for and so much more. I met so many amazing people and still stay in contact with them today. Australia was the perfect place to go because of its amazing scenery, beaches, and people. I was able to travel to so many places, and engage in incredible experiences that I never thought I could. Overall, studying abroad was probably the best four months of my life and an absolutely life changing experience!

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?
I am a more open-minded person than I was before. Also, I am more accepting of other cultures and their way of life. Studying abroad for a semester definitely made me more independent and allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone so I could enjoy every minute of my trip!

What advice can you offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?
If you have any interest in studying abroad.. just do it!! No matter where you go, you will have the time of your life and never regret your decision. Also, go into it with an open mind and do everything you can, because it goes by fast! The opportunities and friendships you make will stay with you forever!
