Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

I chose to study abroad because it is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I knew I could not pass up! I choose the London program in particular because it is such a huge, global city, and because it offered the chance to participate in the internship.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.

The internship in the London program was very important to me because it gave me hands on experience with the culture and with the people who live and work in the city. It gave me a global view of my career path, and amazing experience to help me in my future endeavors of getting into graduate school and finding a good job. It was really the best way I can imagine to get immersed into the culture.

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

It was amazing because it got me out of my comfort zone and made me become more independent. I had to rely on myself more than ever before. I also made some really great friends from my group, and met amazing people from London that will be good connections in the future. It really changed my view of myself, and the world. I wouldn't trade this study abroad experience for anything.

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

It gave me a more open minded approach to everyday ideas. It made me see that there are many ways to do things and my way may not always be the best way, and I think that is really important. It got me away from my friends and family which meant that the semester was all about forming me as an individual based on a global experience, not just the experiences I have had in Minnesota. It helped me see who I really am, and what I am capable of. I am so proud of myself for rising to the challenge and exceeding all of my expectations for myself.

What advice can you offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

I would say go for it because it is one of the best opportunities you will ever get, and it could not come at a more important time in your life. What better time to go abroad now while you're still deciding on the path that your future will take??? It is so important to get a global experience, and you will have the best time of your life.
