Alex is an Ambassador who studied abroad in London
Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?
I wanted to go to a place where there was a limited language barrier. I find British culture so cool. I'd done some studying of British History and wanted to learn more.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.
My internship was the best cultural immersion experience that I had on my trip. I was taking a daily commute to my site, I was working and interacting with British coworkers. We'd talk, we'd joke, and we'd work. It was a great experience!
Describe your overall study abroad experience.
I'm not going to sugar coat it- I was disappointed with some aspects of my stay abroad. Some issues I feel the program could change, and some where my own. I would want to make sure students going abroad don't make the mistakes that I myself made while I was over there.
Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?
It was a great cultural experience going to another country. It was so much fun. Studying and interning definitely gave me a new view on how I handle taking care of and completing my work back in the states.
What advice can you offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?
To those who aren't the party animals, the one's who don't drink and would rather sit in their room completing their homework, be sure to go out once. That's it. Bare minimum, once.
