Cassie Raehsler, a 2009 graduate of the College of Saint Benedict, was recently named the Class A girls soccer "Coach of the Year" by the Minnesota State High School Soccer Coaches Association.

The award was announced Oct. 19 at the state Class A soccer banquet in St. Paul.

Raehsler completed her second season at Sartell-St. Stephen (Minnesota) High School, leading the Sabres to their second consecutive Class A state tournament berth.

The Sabres, the Section 8A champion, lost to No. 1-seeded Minneapolis Washburn High School 6-0 in the Class A quarterfinals Oct. 23 at Husky Stadium, St. Cloud State University. Sartell-St. Stephen finished the season with a 13-4-4 overall record.

During the 2013 season, the Sabres lost to No. 1-seeded Blake 3-0 in the state quarterfinals.

In her two seasons at Sartell-St. Stephen, Raehsler has posted a 27-9-6 overall record. She was also named the Section 8A "Coach of the Year" in 2014.

Raehsler, who played high school soccer at Sartell-St. Stephen, spent one season at Concordia-Moorhead before transferring to CSB. She played one season (2006) at CSB for Coach Kate McNeil, but then decided to hang up her cleats and concentrate on her studies (she was a management major at CSB) and also coach soccer. She coached junior high soccer in Sartell in 2007, and was the assistant varsity coach at Sauk Rapids-Rice High School in 2008.

Following graduation, she worked for Target Corp. as a store manager, before returning to the St. Cloud area in 2013. She is currently a sales and service manager for U.S. Bank.
