McCarthy Center LogoThe Eugene J. McCarthy Center for Public Policy and Civic Engagement and the League of Women Voters of the St. Cloud Area are co-sponsoring a candidate forum at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at Sal's Bar and Grill in St. Joseph (note location change).

This forum will feature candidates running for the Minnesota Senate and House of Representatives in Legislative District 13, all of whom have been invited to participate:

  • Senate District 13: Michelle Fischbach and Michael Willemsen
  • House District 13A: Jeff Howe and Anne Buckvold
  • House District 13B: Tim O'Driscoll and Matthew Crouse

The event is free and open to the public.

People attending the forum will have an opportunity to hear candidates address issues of concern to voters this year. The Senate race and House District 13A include the CSB and SJU campuses, and the co-sponsors encourage residents from surrounding communities covered by District 13 to attend.

LWV logoWritten questions will come from the audience, with students from the McCarthy Center and members of the League of Women Voters screening the questions. Each candidate will answer the same questions, and there won't be rebuttals as with a debate format. The League of Women Voters will provide a moderator and timer.

There will be an opportunity for voters to pre-register to vote before and after the forum.

The Eugene J. McCarthy Center for Public Policy and Civic Engagement, created in honor of the late senator and SJU graduate, fosters dialogue and involvement regarding politics, values and public policy. The McCarthy Center facilitates opportunities for creative and integrated learning through programming and experiential learning on and off campus.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization encouraging the informed and active participation in government. It influences public policy through education and advocacy.

Election Day is Nov. 8.
