College of Saint Benedict president MaryAnn Baenninger is one of 76 presidents, trustees and leaders from universities and higher education associations across the country appointed to the newly formed Chronicle of Higher Education/New York Times Higher Education Cabinet.
The goal of the cabinet is to identify trends and discuss the most pressing issues facing higher education today. The inaugural meeting of the group was held Sept. 15 at The New York Times Building in New York City.
“It is certainly an honor and a privilege to have been selected to serve on this Cabinet. This is a wonderful opportunity for presidents and educational leaders from colleges of all sizes to come together to address critical issues in higher education with key leaders from these two publications,” Baenninger said.
She is one of three presidents from Minnesota schools to serve on the cabinet, joining University of Minnesota president Robert Bruininks and Macalester College president Brian Rosenberg.
Baenninger became the 14th president of CSB in August 2004. In addition to the Higher Education Cabinet, Baenninger serves on numerous higher education boards and commissions including the American Council on Education, American University of Sharjah, Minnesota Private Colleges Council, Council on Undergraduate Research and Council of Independent Colleges.
She also serves on the Supreme Court of Minnesota Commission on Judicial Selection and the Hazelden Foundation Graduate School Board of Trustees.
