Each academic year, students, faculty and staff at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University take on a variety of significant research, scholarship and creative projects.

And each year, their work is highlighted on Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day.

The 24th annual version of the event is scheduled for Thursday (April 25). Nicholas Olberding, the Experience Hub ambassador and outreach manager at the two schools, said around 700 student presenters are expected to display and discuss 257 projects.

The day begins with an invitation-only Scholars Reception Breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by a CSC Day Kickoff Celebration at 8:15 a.m. in Gorecki 204 on the CSB campus at which numerous scholars, including the CSC Day Spotlight Recipients, Distinguished Thesis Scholars and this year’s winner of the Outstanding Thesis Award, will be recognized.

The large poster session, in which attendees will be able to view projects and interact with presenters from across a variety of disciplines, will follow from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. in Gorecki 204. Concurrent sessions at various locations across the two campuses will begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue through 4:30 p.m.

At 7 p.m., Extending the Link - a non-profit, student-founded and student-run group that creates short documentary films dealing with under-reported global social justice issues, will present the premiere of this year’s film – “¿Dónde Vive?” - in SJU’s Stephen B. Humphrey Theater.

The film looks at diabetes as a social justice issue, specifically examining its impact on residents of the town of San Cristóbal de las Casas, Mexico.

As in past years, classes will not be in session that day, allowing students to attend CSC Day events.

“These institutions are extremely passionate about the research and creative works of students, staff and faculty,” Olberding said. “This is a day we set aside for the students to present their work and for our campus communities to celebrate and lift them up.”
