Al Eisele '58 (March 2008)

The Eugene J. McCarthy Center has received outside funding for a Scholar-in-Residence program. We hosted Al Eisele '58 for a week-long residency from March 10th-14th, 2008. Mr. Eisele had an impressive record of commitment to the public interest:

• Editor of The Hill, one of Washington DC’s top political newspapers
• Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication, Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars and Fellow of the Institute of Politics at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University
• Press secretary to Vice President Walter F. Mondale
• Author of numerous articles appearing in national publications such as The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, and The Atlantic

In addition to classroom visits and community lectures, an evening panel discussion about politics and the changing nature of journalism took place on Thursday, March 13 in Quad 264 at 7pm. In addition to Al Eisele, Minneapolis StarTribune columnist Nick Coleman was on the panel along with other guests yet to be named.
