Voices Under FireLive @ the Jungle: Voices Under Fire

Mixing fiction, memoir and poetry, Jungle actors read selections from works by highly acclaimed Graywolf Press authors that chronicle personal perspectives of world violence, with accompanying music by Roberta Carlson.  Selected works include Jack & Rochelle: A Holocaust Story of Love and Resistance by Lawrence Sutin, Full Moon Boat by Fred Marchant, Ana Imagined by Perrin Ireland, and Without an Alphabet, Without a Face by Saadi Youssef. 

 

Barbara Dimmick

Reading: April 24th, 2002
In residence: April 22nd-25th

Barbara Dimmick's first novel, In the Presence of Horses, was published in 1998 to much critical acclaim and was translated into five languages.  Her reading will take place in the Teresa Reception Boardroom at the College of Saint Benedict.

Saskia Hamilton

Reading: March 12th, 2002
In residence: March 10th-14th, 2002

Hamilton's poems have appeared in the Threepenny Review, the Kenyon Review, and the Colorado Review, among other journals.  Hamilton is the recipient of a Bunting Fellowship from the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.

Fred Marchant

In residence: February 11th-14th, 2002

Marchant is the author of Tipping Point, which won the Washington Prize in poetry and Full Moon Boat.

Lawrence Sutin

Reading: January 24th, 2002
In residence: January 14th-May 10th

Sutin is an award-winning memoirist and biographer.  His books include Jack and Rochelle: A Holocaust Story of Love and Resistance, Divine Invasions: A Life of Phillip K. Dick, and Do What Thou Wilt: A Life of Aleister Crowly.

Albert GoldbarthAlbert Goldbarth

Jungle artists bring to life powerful new voices in poetry.  This is the first event in a series of performances exploring the works of prize-winning poets and authors in the intimate setting of the Jungle Theater.
