Read and follow the instructions below prior to your arrival on campus to prepare your computer for connection to the campus network:
Use Up-to-Date Anti-virus Software
Students are required to run anti-virus software on their PC and Macintosh computers on campus. Click here to find a variety of anti-virus products to choose from, which are free for personal or limited use. If you choose to use one of these products, you are responsible for ensuring you comply with their terms of service.
Back Up Personal Data Regularly
IT Services highly recommends students back up personal data (e.g. pictures, music, videos, documents) regularly to avoid data loss in the event of hardware or software issues with personal computers. Backup solutions include a cloud-based service or external hard drive. Keep in mind that external hard drives and other backup solutions can also fail, so it is wise to store important data in more than one location. Students are responsible for their own backup methods and for managing personal data.

Network connections (both wired and wireless) are available in all residence hall rooms and provide connectivity to the Internet and network resources for student-owned computers, 24 hours-a-day, so a personal wireless router is not necessary. Connecting a personal router to the campus network could interfere with campus equipment causing slowness or outages. For these reasons, IT Services recommends students not connect personal routers on campus. IT Services supports connecting personal computers and other devices such as wireless printers, game consoles, and e-readers directly to the campus wireless network. See Manual Device and Game Console Registration for instructions.
See Requirements for Student Owned Computers Connecting to the CSB/SJU Network for more information on minimum requirements for connecting personal computers to the campus network.
See Connecting to CSB/SJU Student Network Resources for information and instructions for connecting to network resources from your personal computer.
