Instructions for the Spanish Placement Exam

Important information: The placement exam is a tool used to help determine where your high school level of Spanish corresponds to the course levels at CSB/SJU. The exam is not a means to "test out" of the global language proficiency requirement, nor do you receive credit for your score or placement. Therefore, to avoid skewing your proper placement, we strongly advise you not to study for the exam or use study materials while taking the exam.

Spanish Proficiency Exam

Students whose scores place them in HISP 212 have the option to take the Spanish Proficiency Exam, a three-part exam that consists of reading, writing, and oral (optional) components. Students who pass two of the three components of this exam satisfy the Global Language Proficiency Requirement. This exam is only administered on campus by appointment. Contact Mary Niedenfuer at or call (320) 363-5067 for more information or to make an appointment to take the proficiency exam.
