Economics

What inspired you to become an economics major?

I enjoyed looking deeper into the cause and effect of an outcome. For example, I came into college as an accounting major, but I wasn’t satisfied. I was a fish out of water because I wanted to know more than “that’s what the rules say to do.” I grew to enjoy tinkering with graphs and equations and seeing how different scenarios adjust the final outcome of human behavior in the market. It’s strange how much of a thrill I got from a simple supply and demand graph – everything clicked.

What advice do you have for students considering a major in economics?

Take a few classes and see if you can find your niche. If you find a passion for it, pursue it, if you don’t, you’ve at least got some background in the area to help you in your future endeavors.
