Current job: Financial Advisor, Northwestern Mutual
I've always had a natural curiosity not just on what business is, but how it works and understanding it from a deeper global perspective. Nothing exemplifies that more than the economics major at CSB/SJU.
Take Economics 101 as soon as possible to give you a trial run early in your major to confirm that this is the path for you. Speak with alumni and 3rd and 4th year students to get their feedback on the major. Dr. W. Parker Wheatley is a great resource as well. Also, the courses are challenging so make sure that you are invested in the major.
As a financial advisor, I use the concepts and theories to critically think through the financial planning landscape, and these skills I learned during my economics education and are invaluable in the business world regardless of industry.
Since graduation, my biggest challenge has been starting my business. I would recommend complimenting your economics courses with some communication, marketing, political science, and accounting/business courses.
The entire community of CSB/SJU. I have used a lot of my connections in growing my business.
